Namun sebelum berbicara harga yuk simak sedikit sejarah Acer sendiri. yang mana Acer Inc adalah perusahaan elektronik dan perangkat keras multinasional Taiwan yang berkantor pusat di Xizhi, New Taipei City, Taiwan. Acer didirikan oleh Stan Shih dan istrinya Carolyn Yeh beserta lima orang lain sebagai Multitech pada tahun 1976. Perusahaan ini memproduksi desktop dan laptop, komputer tablet, server, perangkat penyimpanan, display, dan smartphone.
Acer juga menyediakan layanan e-bisnis untuk bisnis, pemerintah dan konsumen. Selain bisnis inti, Acer juga memiliki waralaba komputer jaringan ritel terbesar di Taipei, Taiwan. Pada 2012, Acer adalah vendor PC terbesar keempat di dunia. Di awal tahun 2000an, Acer menerapkan model bisnis baru dengan berubah dari sebagai perusahaan produsen menjadi perancang, pemasar dan distributor produksi.
Perusahaan ini bangun dengan 11 orang karyawan dan modal US $25.000. Saat itu perusahaan masih berkantor pusat di Kota Hsinchu, Taiwan. Awalnya, perusahaan hanya menjadi distributor komponen elektronik dan konsultan dalam penggunaan teknologi mikroprosesor.
Perusahaan memproduksi Micro-Profesor MPF-I kit training, kemudian dua Apple II clones, yang disebut Microprofessor II dan III sebelum bergabung dengan IBM. Setelah bergabung dengan IBM, perusahaan ini menjadi perusahaan penghasil PC yang disegani. Pada tahun 1989, perusahaan ini kemudian berganti nama menjadi Acer.
Pada tahun 1989, Shih menyewa Leonard Liu untuk menjadi President dari Acer Group dan Ketua Eksekutif dari Acer America Corp. Gaya manajerial Acer America Corp Liu mencerminkan pengalamannya di "Big Blue". Pada saat yang sama, industri komputer sedang mengalami perkembangan yang cukup pesat, bergeser dari bisnis marjin berkeuntungan tinggi menjadi komoditi margin rendah semalam secara praktis. Perang harga mendorong harga komponen turun begitu cepat dan kekuatan dolar New Taiwan membuat barang negara begitu mahal, sehingga menjadi sulit untuk membuat keuntungan pada produk jadi.
Pada tahun 1998, Acer direorganisasi menjadi lima kelompok: Acer International Service Group, Acer Sertek Service Group, Acer Semiconductor Group, Acer Informasi Produk Group, dan Acer Peripherals Group. Dua tahun kemudian, restrukturisasi perusahaan tidak membuat pengaruh yang signifikan pada perusahaan secara keseluruhan, dan harga pun saham jatuh. Perusahaan Shih direstrukturisasi lagi. Untuk menghalau keluhan dari klien bahwa Acer bersaing dengan produknya sendiri dan mengurangi sifat kompetitif dari penjualan bermerek vs bisnis kontrak manufaktur, Shih mengganti nama perusahaan kontrak bisnisnya menjadi Wistron Corporation.
Sejak tahun 1999 Perusahaan mengambil langkah untuk pemotongan biaya dengan mengurangi tenaga kerja dan merampingkan Operasi AS. J.T Wang memberikan insiatif untuk menggunakan pendekatan terintegrasi lebih terpusat yang didasarkan pada 3 prinsip global; "One Global Company", "One Global Brand" dan "One Global Team".
Kini, Acer group adalah keluarga dari tiga merek - Acer, Gateway, dan Packard Bell. Perusahaan memiliki kurang lebih 8.000 karyawan dengan pendapatan sebesar US $15,7 miliar pada 2011 lalu. Kesuksesan merger Gateway Inc (Oktober 2007) dan Packard Bell Inc (Maret 2008) oleh perusahaan induk, Acer Inc, melengkapi jejak global kelompok ini dengan memperkuat kehadirannya di Amerika Serikat dan Eropa.
